Yoga is an art and science of right living, which enables us to harmonize our head (intellect), heart (emotion) and hand (action). Yoga works as all-preventive, promotive and curative science for health, harmony, peace and overall wellbeing.

Relaxation: Relaxation techniques refer to the variety of methods and manipulations used to reduce stress, muscle tension and anxiety in the body. Relaxation techniques are effective in treating back pain by relaxing painful back muscles and relieving muscle spasms as well as diverting attention away from pain. The techniques are thought to work by triggering the Relaxation Response (RR), a state of deep relaxation that induces a decrease in heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure and breathing rate. We give different relaxation techniques like DRT, QRT, Yoga Nidra etc.

Kriya: The kriyas (Cleansing techniques) are used to balance the three Doshas, the humours in the body i.e. Vata, Pittha & Kapha. According to both Ayurveda & Yoga, an imbalance in the Doshas will result in illness. So Kriyas play the preliminary role in Yoga therapy for any of the diseases. Hatha Yoga talks about mainly six techinques out of which the following four are used as a part of Yoga therapy at I-AIM.

  • Jala neti : Nasal Cleansing – Beneficial in treating Respiratory tract diseases.
  • Vamanadhauti : Regurgitative Cleansing – Beneficial for Respiratory & Upper Digestive tract diseases.
  • LSP (Laghu Shankha Prakshalanam): Short Intestinal Wash – Useful in treating Lower Digestive tract disorders.
  • Trataka : Concentrated gazing – Cleanses eyes, Improves concentration, releases stress by relieving nervous tension etc.

Asana: An Asana is textually defined as ''Sthiram sukham Asanam'' , 'that position which is comfortable and steady'. The practice of Asana integrates & hormonizes the body & mind. Asanas also release mental tensions by dealing with them on the physical level acting somato-psychically, through the body to the mind. Regular practice of Asana maintains the physical body in an optimum condition & promotes health even in an unhealthy body.
Here at I-AIM, the referred patients individually undergo a Therapeutic Yoga program having set of Asanas which are specific to their health condition. Thus here the Therapeutic Yoga programs are usually titled as Yoga for Diabetes, Yoga for Arthritis, Yoga for Back pain, antanatal & postanatal Yoga etc.

Pranayama: Pranayama is generally defined as 'Breath control' which we usually consider as mere breathing exercises aimed at introducing extra oxygen into the lungs. But to be more specific, Pranayam means extension or expansion of the dimension of Prana. So Pranayamas utilize breathing to influence the flow of Prana in the Nadis, the energy channels in the body. At I-AIM, the therapeutic Yoga programs also include basic set of Pranayama practices such as kapalabhati, Nadishodhana and Bhramari.

Mudras & Bandhas: Mudras & Bandhas are the spiritual practices which are actually meant for channelising the Pranic flow in the Nadis. But they are also having a few physical impacts which are helpful in treating certain health condtions such Prolapse, Piles, Menstrual disorders etc.

Meditation: Meditation is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state. It is the means for fathoming all the levels of ourselves and finally experiencing the center of consciousness within. Meditation helps us to understand how our mind works, and when we understand how our mind works we can begin to make purposeful changes to our life to improve it. Additionally, meditation improves our ability to objectively analyze our emotions, mental states, thought patterns, and responses to events that occur around you. Here at I-AIM we give meditation for different mental health related problems. Different meditaion techneques are OM meditation, Sun meditation etc.
